Sable Audio isn't just a recording studio...it's part of a community of musicians. Today, that community is at risk.

#SaveSableAudio

Music has always had the power to bring people together. It creates friendships, gives people a place to belong, and offers an escape during life's hardest moments.

For years, Canvas Land has been one of those places. Musicians from every corner of Halifax's music scene have gathered there to rehearse, write, record, and chase their dreams. Within those walls, Sable Audio was built with a simple but ambitious goal: to create a professional recording and rehearsal space where artists could do their best work.

What started as one person's dream became something much bigger.

Founder Avery Legacy poured years of his life into building Sable Audio from the ground up. Through countless late nights, personal sacrifices, and an unwavering belief in the local music community, he transformed a room that had sat neglected and filled with years of accumulated garbage into a professional recording studio.

What others saw as an unusable space, he saw as an opportunity.

He spent thousands of hours cleaning, rebuilding, renovating, and slowly investing in the equipment needed to create a studio that four dedicated bands now proudly call home.

But today, that dream is in danger.

For more than a year, the building housing Sable Audio has continued to deteriorate. What began as roof leaks turned into something far more serious. Water repeatedly entered the building. Humidity climbed high enough to damage expensive recording equipment and instruments. Mold spread throughout the space, making it increasingly difficult to breathe. Rats damaged cables and equipment. Despite repeated concerns, the building continued to decline.

Then everything reached a breaking point.

Following heavy rainfall, sections of the drop ceiling collapsed under the weight of the water they had absorbed. The ceiling materials are believed to contain asbestos, creating even greater concern for everyone working in the building.

Sable Audio isn't alone.

Five active music spaces currently operate within Canvas Land, and every rehearsal, recording session, lesson, and creative project has been affected. This isn't just one studio facing hardship, it's an entire creative community at risk of losing the place they've called home.

The most heartbreaking part is that none of this happened because the studio was neglected.

Quite the opposite.

While the building continued to deteriorate, Avery continued investing in Sable Audio. Years of work, thousands of hours, and countless dollars went into building the studio itself. Watching that work be threatened by circumstances beyond anyone's control has been devastating.

But we refuse to let this be the end of Sable Audio's story.

We believe this challenge can become the beginning of something even greater.

Our goal isn't simply to relocate.

Our goal is to build a permanent home where musicians never again have to worry about leaking roofs, mold, unsafe conditions, or watching years of hard work disappear because of a building they cannot control.

This campaign is about more than rebuilding one recording studio.

It's about creating something Halifax's music community desperately needs: a safe, professionally maintained creative space where artists can rehearse, record, collaborate, and grow for years to come.

The reality is that Sable Audio isn't the only space losing its home. Five other rehearsal and creative spaces are facing the same uncertainty.

We don't just want to rebuild Sable Audio.

We want to build a new home for the community.

Funds raised through this campaign will help us secure a new location, move and rebuild Sable Audio, and begin laying the foundation for a larger shared creative space. Our long-term vision is to create professionally maintained recording studios, rehearsal rooms, and collaborative spaces where musicians can invest their time, equipment, and passion with confidence.

If we exceed our fundraising goal, every additional dollar will go directly toward expanding that vision; creating additional rehearsal rooms, improving facilities, and building a permanent home that can support not only Sable Audio, but the many musicians who deserve a place to create.

This isn't about replacing what we've lost.

It's about building something better.

Whether you donate, share our story, or simply help spread the word, you're becoming part of the next chapter of Sable Audio.

Together, we can make sure years of passion, creativity, and community aren't lost.

Together, we can build something that lasts.

Thank you for believing in local music.
