Help Build Ga Gitigemi Gamik We Will Plant Lodge
Who are we?
Shegoli, my name is Celeste Smith, I am Ohnkweone:na and the Founder/Director of Cultural Seeds and Ga Giti Gimigemi Gamik (We Will Plant Lodge).
As an intergenerational trauma survivor, I know firsthand the impacts colonization has had on Indigenous communities. For over 10 years, I have been a teacher, an advocate, and a change-maker, working towards maintaining our traditional cultural lifestyle through sharing knowledge about healthy relationships, food, and land.
Our goal at We Will Plant Lodge is to (RE)build resilient food and farming systems by empowering Indigenous women and gender diverse people to (RE)claim their place as traditional agricultural leaders to solve food insecurity in their communities.
In collaboration with Linda and Chuc Willson from Ravenswing Farm (Our Graden Products), we are building an ecological centre on a permanent Indigenous stewarded site, where we will (RE)learn ancestral agricultural methods lost to colonization. From seed to harvest, our team of Indigenous Elders and Traditional Knowledge Holders will guide our emergent learning program to bring our participants back to the land to (RE)generate our foodways and our health.
Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers will guide and mentor the participants, as they immerse themselves within their culture, language, land and food. We will plant the seed and as it grows, we will grow, relearning everything from harvesting to cooking and preserving the food we grow.
Indigenous People need to (RE)establish the connection between our land and our food,
And with your help…
We could bring back traditional knowledge to our communities and regain our health.
