Help Build Ed's Tornado Shelter
Donation protected
I'm Ed Schmidt, a resident of Arkansas. We moved down here about 5 years ago and discovered that houses down here don't even have basements. The best shelter nearby is the cooler of the Arby's 2 miles away, and we would have to leave our two adorable dogs to fend for themselves.
Our objective is to build a tornado shelter in our house, if possible, or in the yard if needed. The underground shelter will cost $7,300 plus delivery and installation. I believe our house is built directly on sandstone bedrock, so it will be harder to get through, but should be safer for the house.
Somewhat cheaper, but with a bit less confidence, is the aboveground shelter with a base cost of $5,100 plus delivery and installation, which I assume will involve a concrete pad anchored into the bedrock to support and anchor it. We need the larger size to ensure room for the dogs.
