Co.LAB is a female-run, multifunctional, creative space which strives to support the societal, cultural and creative needs of artists, as humans first, and as a part of a growing community.
Holding the values of transparency and collaboration at our core, we commit to creating and maintaining an environment that meets the ever-changing needs of the Toronto art community.
As womxn and active artists in Toronto, we've experienced and acknowledged numerous injustices in this community and it's existing spaces. It’s called us to make a change. We realized that there’s a need for a safe space. A space that is female-owned and female-run. And it wasn’t just us who realized this need. Many local artists, especially women, have voiced out their opinions and suggestions.
We plan to make it our responsibility to provide a place where ALL artists of ALL forms can feel included, safe, and a sense of community. A place, not just for dancers, but in collaboration with photographers, videographers, painters, spoken word artists, and other multimedia artists who need a place to create.
We especially are advocating for the groups of people who are not getting the love they deserve such as women, student-dancers, BIPOC, and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.
We will do our very best to meet the needs of the Toronto community, but for us to do that, we’ll need your help.
With our goal of $20,000 we will be able to place our offer on the space, renovate the studio into quality facilities, ensure proper COVID-19 safety precautions are in place, install proper security systems, and be able to sustain for the first few months of rent. We hope to secure a spot by December and open by Spring 2021.
We understand that money can be tight and that we are in the midst of a pandemic, but any amount donated will be highly appreciated!
We hope Co.LAB will become every artist's second home. We know that 2020 has been a difficult year for studios and so we hope to be a beacon of hope for 2021.
Thank you so much for your support so far!
With love,
Co.LAB
