Wayland has been incarcerated since 1997 while maintaining his innocence in a case that remains active in the appellate courts. During his incarceration, he became a prison justice organizer, advocating against systemic abuse and retaliation inside the prison system.
Earlier this year, Wayland was denied parole because of his organizing work. Despite this setback, he remains committed to continuing the work.
This fundraiser supports three essential needs:
a) building a nonprofit infrastructure
b) sustaining basic survival inside prison
c) organizing a parole campaign that challenges retaliation against Wayland.
1. Coalition X – Website Build & 501(c)(3) Registration
Coalition X is an abolitionist, organization in formation. To operate legitimately and build long-term impact, Coalition X wants to establish nonprofit status.
Funds will be used for:
• 501(c)(3) nonprofit registration
• CoalitionX.org website development
The website will serve as the organization’s public foundation, including:
• Mission and values
• Abolition campaigns
• Community education
• Volunteer and donor engagement
• Accountability and updates
This foundational infrastructure will allow Coalition X to grow and operate transparently.
2. Survival & Basic Dignity Support
Basic Necessities: This portion of the fundraiser ensures Wayland can meet essential needs while continuing his organizing work.
Funds will cover:
• One year of canteen support for food, hygiene, and essentials
• Replacement of winter clothing, as his current items are worn out
• Updated small appliances, which are outdated and unreliable
This support is about survival and dignity.
3. Parole Organizing Campaign – “Free Wayland”
Organizing a parole-focused campaign addressing retaliation against Wayland, using his case as a lens.
Funds will support:
• A Free Wayland website
• Site management, updates, and organizing labor
• Estimated cost: $1,000
• Sustain Trusted Supporters: $3,000
This platform will share verified case information, educate the public on parole injustices, and coordinate support efforts.
Raise funds for supporters on the outside who are donating time and labor to execute essential tasks — including website management, administrative coordination, outreach, and organizing support. These are the people helping to turn this vision into action.
