Hi everyone,

My name is Bailie, and I’m working toward opening Ascension Climbing Gym, a new bouldering gym for the Burnaby, Burquitlam, and New Westminster community.

Climbing has been part of my life for more than 15 years. Over that time, I’ve experienced firsthand how powerful climbing gyms can be as community spaces. They’re places where beginners try something new for the first time, where experienced climbers push their limits, and where people build friendships that last far beyond the walls.

One thing I’ve always felt this area was missing is a local climbing gym that people here can truly call their home gym. Many climbers in this community currently have to travel across the region just to climb regularly.

Ascension is my attempt to change that.

The vision is to build a welcoming, community-driven bouldering gym designed for climbers of all experience levels. The space will focus on high-quality route setting, consistent resets, and an environment where both new and experienced climbers feel comfortable and inspired.

The gym will include:

• Modern bouldering walls for all levels

• A training and workout area for strength and mobility

• Youth climbing programs and camps

• Monthly community competitions

• A welcoming space for people discovering climbing for the first time

Opening a climbing gym takes a huge amount of effort and investment. Most of the project funding is being assembled through loans, personal savings, and traditional financing, but I wanted to create this fundraiser so the community can be part of helping bring Ascension to life.

The funds raised here will go toward things that directly shape the climbing experience, including:

• Climbing holds and volumes

• Training equipment for the gym

• Youth program equipment

• Community competitions and events

• Opening week community celebration

Even small contributions help move the project forward.

Climbing has given me so much over the years, and my goal with Ascension is to build a place where others can experience the same sense of challenge, support, and community that makes climbing so special.
