My name is Renée Granston. I was born in Canada, but my heart was raised in the hills of Mulgrave, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica — a humble, peaceful place surrounded by the loving communities of Elderslie, Ipswich, and Breadnut Walk. Those hills are more than a place to me — they are family, they are home, they are love.

Today, that home is unrecognizable. Hurricane Melissa tore through St. Elizabeth, leaving behind unimaginable devastation. Ninety-five percent of homes and crops have been destroyed. Roofs have been ripped away, trees that once fed families now lie scattered on the ground, and proud, hardworking people — who have always lived with faith and dignity — are struggling to find the basics: food, clean water, and shelter.

My family home in Mulgrave lost its roof. While that loss is painful, my heart aches even more for the elders, children, and neighbors who have lost everything — their homes, their crops, their peace of mind. In these remote hills, help is slow to arrive, and every small act of compassion makes a world of difference.

The people of Mulgrave, Elderslie, Ipswich, and Breadnut Walk are resilient. They are strong in spirit, rich in heart, and deeply rooted in love for one another. But right now, they need us. I am raising funds to repair my family home so it can provide shelter for others, and to bring essential relief supplies to families rebuilding their lives from nothing.

St. Elizabeth has long been known as “the breadbasket of Jamaica” — a place that has always given to the nation and to all who visit. But now, our breadbasket is broken, and our people need help to rise again.
