Help Build a Healing Sanctuary for Dogs Who Need It Most

I’m building a home for dogs—of all shapes, sizes, and stories. While we emphasize care for anxious, reactive, and misunderstood dogs—those who often fall through the cracks—Attuned K9 Sanctuary is a place for all dogs who need love, safety, connection, and home.

Some will arrive carrying trauma. Others may simply need a soft place to land. All will be welcomed as individuals, met with respect, and given the space to come back to themselves.

This sanctuary will be rooted in trust, attunement, and deep listening—where dogs can finally exhale, heal, and be deeply seen.

But to bring this to life, I need your help.

Why This Matters

Dogs are asked to adapt constantly to a world that rarely speaks their language. We expect them to tolerate loud sounds, strangers, chaotic environments, and human confusion—without ever being taught what any of it means. When they struggle to cope, they’re often punished, surrendered, or worse.

I believe these dogs don’t need to be “fixed.” They need safety. They need understanding. They need a place where their nervous systems can settle—and where their true nature can emerge again.

This sanctuary will be that place.

Some dogs will stay forever. Others will find new homes. All will be seen as whole, wise and wonderful beings.

The Vision

Attuned K9 Sanctuary will start as a home-based haven in Western North Carolina for:

-Dogs with anxiety, reactivity, trauma, or who have simply been misunderstood

-Larger breeds often overlooked or euthanized due to stigma

-Any “normal” dog in need of long-term sanctuary and safety

It will grow into a place where humans and dogs heal together.

I envision:

-10-15 resident dogs who will live permanently at the sanctuary

-10–20 foster dogs at a time receiving training, rehabilitation, and holistic care on the path to adoption

-A safe, attuned and peaceful home on land—designed with the dogs’ nervous systems in mind

-Programming for behavior education, training, end-of-life support, human–canine connection, play and more!

-Volunteer and education opportunities that reconnect people with themselves through the dog-human bond

Initial Funding Goal: $100,000 (Stretch Goal: $300–500K)

This first phase of funding will help secure the foundation:

Land Access Fund

-Down payment or creative land acquisition

-Real estate/legal consultation

Storytelling & Crowdfunding Tools

-Short video production to share the vision

-Visuals and campaign assets to grow awareness

Community Building

-Website & email list setup

-Instagram & Substack storytelling

-Donor communications platform

Starter Infrastructure

-Fencing, gear (leashes, harnesses, etc.), beds, medical supplies, enrichment tools, and more

-Food, veterinary and medical care fund for first residents/fosters

If we surpass this goal, stretch funds will go toward expanding sanctuary capacity, acquiring a transport vehicle, building guest and volunteer structures, launching various programs, and helping secure the full land purchase and first two years of operations.

We are in the early stages of forming our nonprofit and securing land. All funds will be used to bring this sanctuary to life—from foundational setup to long-term care for the first dogs.

✨ Why I’m Called to Do This ✨

I’ve spent years studying dog behavior, trauma, and nervous system health. I’ve trained with a professional behaviorist and worked hands-on with reactive dogs. But my calling runs deeper than training—it lives at the intersection of healing, soul, and attunement.

My background is in depth psychology and integrative healing modalities, where I’ve studied how trauma shapes both human and animal experience. I’ve learned how regulation, attachment, and presence are the foundation of all healing—across species.

I believe dogs are whole, wise, relational beings. They mirror the parts of us most in need of love and reveal the medicine we didn’t know we were carrying. They deserve to be understood, not corrected. Loved, not managed.

My first dog, Kairos, a deeply anxious German Shepherd, changed my life. He cracked open my heart and taught me how to stay. Through our relationship, I found my first experience of secure attachment as well as my deep reverence for the canine-human connection.

This sanctuary is for him—and for every dog like him who just needs someone willing to stay and listen.
