Build a Literacy Centre in a Berber Village

Donation protected
My name is Naima Alaoui. My brother and I are raising money to support building a literacy and cultural community center in the Berber village (Morocco) where we are originally from. It is a little Amazigh village called Imin Tizkht, in the valley of Ameln, Souss in the south of Morocco. For years, I have been thinking of my old village‘s lamentable condition and dreaming of ways to help. Sadly, our Amazigh villages have been deserted due to economic migration and everyone who is able packed up and headed to the big cities for better futures, leaving behind the poor and vulnerable, usually women and children. As an educator myself, besides food and shelter, I can’t imagine a future without education for anyone. The government’s  contribution to infrastructure is typically limited to necessities such as roads and electricity, and investments in Education are almost non existent in rural areas.  Finally, a door to fulfill my wish to make a difference has finally opened. Fortunately, some good souls , descendants from the village are taking action to extend the hand of help to their motherland. My brother Hafid Alaoui had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with some of them and that’s how Hafid and I came to know of AIDECO. The Imin’tizeght Association for Development and Cooperation (AIDECO) is an non profit organization (NGO)that was created in year 2000 in the (Berber) Amazigh village of Imin’tizeght, near Tafraout city , in the Anti-Atlas Mountains in the south of Morocco and it is about 430 kilometers (268 miles) south west of Marrakech. Aideco is currently undertaking a project to create a Literacy Centre for the benefit of the local rural population. This literacy centre has been named TIFAWT which mean “light” in Amazigh language. It will specifically benefit 50 elementary students, 50% of which are females, 20 middle and high school aged children currently attending school in the nearby Tafraout city, and 20 women. The project’s goal is to renovate an abandoned school building, provide necessary equipment for its functioning and hire a qualified instructor to create and lead a literacy program with educational and cultural activities.  Recently, one of the members, a lady doctor may Allah reward her has donated the cost to renovate the building. The next phase is hiring a teacher and equipping the school with furniture and supplies. The cost of this project has been estimated at 50 000 Dirhams , equivalent to $7000 CAD.  If this project touches your heart and you want to make a difference in the life of these children, please donate to this project. No amount you give is too small. As we say in Morocco نقطة نقطة يعمر الواد drop by drop the river gets filled. On behalf of AIDECO and the kids and women of Imin Tizkht, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Akon Isserbeh rebbi, Thank you, Merci, Shokran & JazakumAllah khairan.
