We need help with one urgent home safety project: a roll-in shower for my wife, who is paraplegic. Our current bathroom is not truly wheelchair accessible. I am a disabled veteran and her caregiver, but because she is not a veteran, the VA does not cover this shower for her. We are trying to raise funds to make our bathroom safe so she can remain at home with me.
Right now, every shower is a risk. My wife is paraplegic, and our bathroom is not wheelchair accessible. Getting her in and out of the shower requires careful, physical transfers in a space that isn’t designed for it. I am 66 and have shoulder, back, and neck injuries. Assisting with these transfers puts both of us at risk. One slip could mean a serious fall for her, or a re-injury for me that would make it harder to care for her at all. A roll-in shower changes that immediately. She can enter safely in her wheelchair, which reduces or eliminates the most dangerous transfers. It lowers the risk of falls for her and reduces the strain on my body so I can continue caring for her safely. This is not a convenience upgrade. It is a safety fix to prevent an avoidable injury for both of us.
If you can help, please donate toward building a safe, wheelchair-accessible shower for my wife. If you cannot donate, please share this. Getting this in front of the right people matters. We are not asking for extras. We are trying to fix one unsafe situation in our home before it leads to a serious injury. Every contribution helps move this closer to being done.
