Help Establish A Holistic Community Space in San Diego

The Ask:

Tierras Indígenas Community Land Trust, in partnership with Monarch Midwives, and The People's Holistic Clinic, is embarking on a journey infused with passion and purpose. Our collaborative endeavor seeks to address the urgent needs of underserved and often overlooked Black, Brown, Chicanx, and Indigenous communities in San Diego, CA.

Tierras Indigenas Community Land Trust, envisions and works towards the manifestation of a bold and beautiful future for the Historic Barrios of San Diego on unceded Kumeyaay Land. We acknowledge that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and entrust future generations to continue the transformation of our communities.

We, first and foremost, endeavor towards the return of indigenous lands - Tierras Indigenas - to the original stewards. We believe that Tonantzin Tlalli / Pachamama / Tiipai cannot be owned, but instead provides for its inhabitants, and the inhabitants therefore should care for Her. In this vein, we work towards a unified, autonomous community in continual healing and reconnection with the land, where humans are part of and aligned with the natural order.

We envision a community that creates and sustains its own food systems, grows its own medicine, and heals together - physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our shared resources include vast, maintained native green spaces, lush tree canopies, restored watersheds, natural drinking water sources, and access to swim and fish in a clean bay. Our communal spaces afford opportunities for economic sovereignty, community building, and cultural expression through vibrant plazas, parks, mercados, commercial and artistic centers. Everyone has affordable, dignified housing, and breathes clean air.

Our communities are and will continue to be a sanctuary for all colonially impacted people, a safe space to partake in decolonial work and reclaim indigenous and cultural practices. In our vision for our community, all families, regardless of race or income, enjoy economic vitality and a high quality of life.

The People’s Holistic Clinic, is a grassroots community-led team based in Kumeyaay Land, otherwise known as San Diego. We are a community of the global majority offering holistic healing services to people of all bodies. Our intention is to center those often marginalized and have limited access to holistic care. Our commitment is to never turn anyone away who is seeking care and healing.

Services are offered by community members; including but are not limited to Acupuncture, Chiropractic Care, Traditional Bodywork, Yoga, Knowledge Shares, Guided Meditation, Reiki Energy Healing, Healing Experiences, Pregnancy Support and so much more. We are dedicated to serving those in our community who are systematically disenfranchised by colonization and capitalism.

Monarch Midwives is a grassroots organization dedicated to increasing midwifery access to underserved communities by removing barriers to midwifery education.

We envision the creation of a holistic community space, a sanctuary where essential services and resources are tailored with cultural respect, trauma-informed, love, and care to meet the unique needs of our community.

Here's a glimpse of our shared vision:

Community Nourishment Garden: We believe that access to fresh, nutritious food is not just a necessity but a right. Our community garden will not only combat food insecurity but also cultivate a sense of belonging and empowerment through sustainable agriculture practices.

Affordable Housing Haven: The challenge of affordable housing affects many families in our community. By offering affordable housing options, we strive to ensure that everyone has a sanctuary, a place to call home that is safe and stable.

Creative Oasis: Creativity is the heartbeat of vibrant communities. Our art studios will serve as nurturing spaces for local artists, providing affordable workspaces that inspire creativity and celebrate cultural richness.

Holistic Healing Hub: Health is holistic, encompassing mind, body, and spirit. Our holistic clinic will offer a sanctuary of healing, providing no-cost services such as acupuncture, massage therapy, prenatal care, chiropractic care, and educational workshops to address the health disparities disproportionately affecting Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.

Sacred Birth Sanctuary: Every birth is a sacred journey, deserving of reverence and support. Our birth center will provide culturally sensitive and holistic care to expectant mothers, with a deep commitment to reducing the alarming rates of maternal and infant mortality among Black, Brown, and Indigenous families.

The urgency of this project is underscored by the alarming statistics surrounding maternal and infant mortality rates among marginalized communities in the United States. Moreover, the community is experiencing gentrification, as San Diego ranks among the most expensive places to live in the United States.
