A Place Where Every Child Belongs
For more than 40 years, the Senta Bilong Helpim (Centre of Help) in Vanimo, Papua New Guinea, has been a place of welcome, care and hope for children and young adults living with disability and their families.
For some families, reaching the Senta means travelling for hours from remote communities, sometimes carrying a child who cannot walk, because there is nowhere else nearby where they can receive specialised support.
At the Senta, children have received therapy, nourishment, learning, pastoral care and friendship. Parents have found practical support and encouragement. Families have discovered that they are not alone.
But the existing centre is no longer safe or fit for purpose.
We now have the opportunity to give the Senta a new home, however, we need $300,000 to complete the new Senta.
The total project cost is AUD $600,000. Half of the funding (AUD$300,000 has already been secured).
Now we are asking people across Australia and around the world to help us raise the remaining $300,000.
The new centre will be built on land provided by the Diocese of Vanimo, closer to the township and local health services.
The first stage will include:
• Three therapy rooms
• A large multipurpose area
• Meeting and training spaces
• Kitchen and dining facilities
• Accessible amenities
• Administration and reception areas
• Short-term accommodation for families travelling for care
The future development of the centre will also include a vocational workshop where young adults with disability can develop practical skills and pathways towards employment.

- This is more than a building project. It is about giving a child somewhere safe to receive therapy.

- It is about giving families a place where they are welcomed and valued.
- It is about giving young people with disability opportunities to participate, learn and belong.
- And it is about making sure this important ministry continues for generations to come.
