A new open platform for Myanmar’s news

This project will make independent reporting from Myanmar freely accessible to the world. It will:

• Aggregate and archive feeds – Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, and Telegram channels can be submitted and automatically preserved.

• Translate in real time – All posts appear in English alongside the original text.

• Distribute via public RSS – Thanks to InoReader, feeds can be followed directly or converted into email digests.

• Expand coverage by request – Users suggest new outlets and feeds, making the system collective and adaptive.

• Preserve history – Even if pages are shut down, their reporting remains searchable and secure.

In short, it gives visibility to Myanmar’s independent media, ensuring their reporting is accessible worldwide—without paywalls, subscriptions, or NGO gatekeeping.

Why this matters

Since the 2021 coup, Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram have been lifelines for news inside Myanmar. But posts vanish, accounts are shut down, and much reporting exists only in Burmese or minority languages. International donor funding has collapsed, English-language outlets are disappearing, and commercial databases charge prohibitively high fees. The result: essential reporting is scattered, fragile, and invisible to outsiders.

• Hosting and backend development of the RSS submission system.

• Two years of InoReader subscription for public hosting.

• Translation API costs.

• Development of the user submission interface.

• Secure archiving against censorship and deletion.
