Hello! My name is Caroline De la Cruz, a student at University High School, and the founder of this project!
My family is originally from Pampa Chacaltana, a small town in Ica, Peru. While education here is technically free, the reality is that families struggle to afford the cost of books and supplies that can serve to establish a love for learning. In remote areas like Pampa Chacaltana, these challenges are even more prevalent. Pampa Chacaltana is an agricultural area which heavily relies on farming. However, since the area is located in a desert, the economy of its inhabitants fluctuates unreliably due to frequent droughts. This prevents many families from being able to access educational resources, which limits their children’s opportunities of exploring new ideas, expressing themselves, and accessing books.
Our mission is to bridge this gap by creating a welcoming and accessible space where the youth and young adults of Pampa Chacaltana can access books and other educational materials free of cost. Books will allow the youth of Pampa Chacaltana to explore new worlds, expand their imagination, and enhance their critical thinking skills. Books will continue to emphasize a love for reading and learning outside of a classroom setting.
By supporting our library, you will help us create a long-standing impact on this community. Your support will not only provide access to today’s youth readers, but will also nurture a love for reading that will benefit future generations. With your help, we will allow youth to overcome challenges posed by limited resources and allow them to reach their full potential.
