Help Build a Library for Maasai Children in Tanzania

A few years ago, I helped build a small children’s library in Nicaragua.
It started with a handful of books… and grew into a place where kids gathered every day to read, dream, and imagine bigger futures.

Now I’ve been given the chance to do it again — this time in a Maasai village in Tanzania.

Last week my friend in Naiyobi village sent me photos of the children holding the books I purchased for them.
They were beaming — proudly lifting the books over their heads like treasures.

But here’s the problem…

They don’t have a library yet.

Right now, their books are stored in boxes and carried from place to place. The village has started building a simple concrete block structure that will become their first real library — a safe, dry space where children can sit, read, and learn after school.

They just need help finishing it.

To complete the building — roofing, doors, windows, shelves, and basic furnishings — they need:

$5,748

That’s it.
Not millions.
Just enough to finish the walls and fill the room with possibility.

And when I heard that number, I thought:

We can do this.

If:
   •   100 people give $50
or
   •   50 people give $100
or
   •   lots of small gifts add up

…this library becomes real.

Why this matters

These children walk miles to school.
Books are scarce.

A library means:
literacy
homework help
a safe after-school space
opportunity
pride in their own community

It’s not just a building — it’s a doorway.

I’ve seen firsthand what a small library can do for a village. It changes everything.

How your donation helps

Every dollar goes directly to:
   •   finishing construction
   •   shelves & tables
   •   books
   •   basic furnishings

My trusted Maasai friend oversees the project locally and sends regular updates and photos, and I’ll share every step with you here.

Total goal: $5,748

If you’ve ever loved a library…
If you believe every child deserves books…
If you want to be part of something small but powerful…

Please consider donating or sharing this page.

Together, we can build one little room full of stories — and change a lot of lives.

With gratitude,
Debbie ❤️
