Help Bug Teeth record their album!

Hello!!

PJ here - founder of Bug Teeth. If you’ve heard of us, you’ll probably know that we make dreamy, experimental ambient rock in Leeds. We are 5 little bugs with a big dream: to record our debut album.

Before we tell you what we’re raising money for, here’s a bit about us.

I have been making music under Bug Teeth since 2018. My first EP, When All The World Has Gone To Bed, is a self-produced electronic dream-pop project. I made it entirely on GarageBand with nothing but Apple headphones and brazen confidence.

I found my other bug band members in 2019 after falling in love with Gladboy. I worked with most of their members until we made Bug Teeth the 5-piece full band outfit it is today. We made Lucky Me, Lucky Mud in our Leeds basement from 2022-2023 with Adam (bass) producing the whole EP. It is mostly songs that I’d written solo, wonderfully brought to life in a way that makes me emotional whenever I talk about it.

In 2021, my mum suddenly passed away - an obviously traumatic event that inspired the writing of this album. It is called Micrographia, and the collection of songs tells the story of my grief. Ranging in influences from Broadcast, Stereolab, Yo La Tengo, Melody’s Echo Chamber and Björk, it’s a soup of ambient, dreamy, electronic, glitchy goodness.

We have recorded and mixed 2 songs from this album. Joel Patchett took us to Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne where we had the best time ever. Landscaping, our latest single, was born there, and we released the song in March. We have another single ready to be released - we reckon around July.

We cannot afford to finish recording this album. We paid almost entirely for those 2 songs out of pocket - me, Alex and George have only just made this money back from band earnings, a whole year later. We predict that Micrographia will cost us about £7,000 total at least for Joel, studio time and mastering. That’s not including petrol to get to the studio, any food, or accommodation.

Now, we absolutely do not expect to earn this much from donations, however generous. We have a fair amount of shows booked this year, and are hoping to earn a small profit. We have about £500 in our band bank account at the moment, which we use for all outgoings. However, whilst we use this account for petrol, merch, accom, van stuff, etc., there’s a big chunk that comes out of our own pockets, despite the band fund being topped up by shows. We have never been able to pay ourselves a wage from our earnings, and don’t expect to. Simply, we just want to record our album.

Literally any amount of money is incredibly generous, and thank you so so much to those of you who come to our shows and buy merch! If that’s how you prefer to donate, we have some merch left on Bandcamp, so feel free to grab a tshirt or record there. We’ll get some more tees made before the summer.

All money raised here will go towards funding recording our album. Booking the studio is our priority, then Joel, then mastering. We do not want to earn extra money from this - just aiming to fund as much of the album as we can.

Thank you endlessly for all your support. It’s amazing to have this community.
