Bug has always been an artist, devoting much of his time to creative pursuits and expressing himself through digital art, photography, and illustration. Recently, he was recognized with a Silver Key in the Scholastic Art Awards, a national program that celebrates young creative talent.

Following this achievement, Bug was invited to attend a selective Pre-College Summer Art Program at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College. This two-week residential program offers college-level studio work, mentorship from practicing artists, and the chance to earn college credit. It is designed to help students refine their skills, develop their artistic voice, and build a portfolio for future opportunities.

Art has been a constant for Bug, even through periods of change and uncertainty. Our family has moved across multiple states and experienced housing instability, including time in transitional housing. Because of financial limitations, Bug has not had access to opportunities like this before.

The total cost of the residential program is $3,300. Bug received a $750 scholarship through the Scholastic Art Awards, leaving a remaining balance of $2,550.

We are hoping to choose the residential option because the campus is about an hour away, and with work schedules, one vehicle, and other children to coordinate, a daily commute is not realistic.

The program also fills quickly, and registration requires payment, which means Bug may miss the opportunity if we are not able to commit soon.

Bug hopes to pursue a future in art, and this program would be a meaningful step forward.
