In 1996, Buff was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life without parole. It would take 27 years for Buff to walk through the gates of Angola as a free man.
As soon as he arrived at Angola, Buff dedicated himself to learning criminal procedure and case law. Once Buff knew he understood enough not to harm other people’s cases, Buff began drafting and filing petitions to help the men around him. Dozens of men regained their freedom because of the free assistance Buff provided. But he was not able to come up with a solution to his own legal battle.
By the grace of god, Buff eventually made it all the way to the moment where he had the opportunity to sit face to face the father of the victim in his case. The depth and sincerity of Buff’s remorse moved the grieving father, and he became instrumental in Buff’s resentencing and return to freedom.
Today, Buff is working to rebuild his life. He has a beautiful fiancé he plans to marry soon. Buff needs to buy a reliable car so he can work as a paralegal/investigator on cases for people all over Louisiana.
Buff continues to fight for others’ freedom with the wisdom and compassion that can only come from walking the road from despair to redemption. Please donate anything you can to show your love for a remarkable person who continues to tirelessly serve others.
