Buddy is a 12-year-old male cat who, along with his sister, lost their home because of a divorce. They were both at risk of being dropped at a shelter when I took them in, hoping to give them a safe and loving place to land. From the start, I noticed Buddy seemed underweight, so I brought him to the vet for a checkup. After some initial care and a follow-up visit, bloodwork revealed that Buddy was very hyperthyroid—a condition that can be life-threatening if left untreated.

We started the typical medication for hyperthyroidism, but unfortunately, Buddy’s body couldn’t tolerate it. The medication negatively affected his white and red blood cell counts, making it unsafe for him to continue. After several tests and treatments, the vet and I learned that the best and safest solution for Buddy is radioactive iodine therapy. This treatment is highly effective and would give Buddy the best chance at a healthy, happy life.
