We are reaching out because someone very close to us, Benjamin Turner, Jr. (Bud), is currently facing a tough battle with mental illness. Bud has been living with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders for the past 15 years. As a family, we have worked tirelessly to support him, but his condition has become more severe over time. Despite being diagnosed and prescribed medications, Bud was unable to afford them, and his health declined further.
Recently, Bud was incarcerated in the Grayson County Jail for breaking and entering and vandalism. He has been there for the past seven months, unable to make bail due to our family's financial constraints. Bud has struggled to maintain employment because of his mental health, and our attempts to secure Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for him have been denied three times. He lacks the basic necessities for life and cannot provide for himself.
We are now taking steps to get Bud placed in a long-term mental health facility or group home, but the costs are overwhelming. The Grayson County District Attorney has indicated that Bud could face a sentence of 5 to 99 years for his offense, but is open to the idea of him receiving treatment instead of more jail time. We are seeking support to cover therapy sessions, medication, and group home living expenses for at least three years, so Bud can get the treatment he needs and focus on getting better.
It is our earnest hope that your generous donations will make Bud’s transition to proper care a reality. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and used entirely for this effort. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would mean the world to us. Thank you for your kindness and support. With gratitude, Ardina Anderson and Carla Furtch.
