Help Buck Hear Again: Support for Cochlear Implant

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jessica LeCheminant. I am doing this for my husband and the best dad to his 3 children and a baby on the way.

In May of 2023, Buck woke up with an ear infection. He was taken to the emergency room where he was told he has mastoiditis, a rare infection for adults, and was sent straight to the surgeon. Everything went well for the next 4 weeks. He then came down with a bone infection that resulted in 4 more surgeries, leaving his skull very thin.

During the last surgery, they were not able to take a bone biopsy because it would be exposing his brain. Each surgery was more serious and painstaking than the previous. He had several serious infections at the same time, 3 of which had a high chance of being fatal, one being a 60% chance of mortality. He has had multiple PICC lines that resulted in blood clots in both arms, and he will be on blood thinners for the remainder of his life.

He has been on 4 of the strongest antibiotics for the last 2 years. His doctors are worried about a possible relapse of infection, so he continues to take a strong antibiotic as a precautionary measure, of which the side effect is tendons and ligaments being severed. He has been dealing with the side effects of these antibiotics with no reprieve. The outcome of the last surgery was successful and most painful. They ended up pulling muscle from his skull down over his ear, completely closing it off. Unfortunately, he is dealing with complete hearing loss in his ear, which includes constant tinnitus with no relief. It has caused him severe depression and lackluster of life.

According to his ENT doctor, he is the perfect candidate for the Osia cochlear implant. With this device, not only will he be able to hear again, but it will lessen the constant ringing of the tinnitus. We have tried to go through insurance and they will not cover it. We have appealed the insurance company several times and they are refusing to cover it. The only hope Buck has to hear again and get relief from the constant ringing of tinnitus is through this device.

The amount being asked for is to cover the cost of the implant, surgery, and other medical costs the insurance will not cover. We are looking into options to help cover things, so anything will help and be appreciated.

Thank you for all the prayers sent his way. This will be the light at the end of the tunnel; we just need to get there. He will be able to restore a sense of normalcy and hear his family and children.
