I am raising funds for the protection and medical care of endangered mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei).

Through my web initiative, "Bubu and the Mountain Gorillas", I am working to connect people globally with the urgent need to protect these vulnerable primates. As someone who has previously dedicated time to advocating for primate rescue and rehabilitation efforts including awareness campaigns for centers like Fundació Mona this cause is deeply personal and critical to me.

Why is this cause important?

Mountain gorillas are our closest cousins after chimpanzees and bonobos, sharing 98.3% of their genetic code with humans. However, their survival is constantly threatened by habitat destruction, poaching, and iron snares set in the forests. Because they share so many traits with humans, gorillas are highly susceptible to human diseases. Outbreaks of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) and human metapneumovirus (HMPV) have repeatedly been introduced into mountain gorilla populations, causing severe and sometimes fatal respiratory infections. We cannot ignore this ecological emergency.

How will the funds be used?

All collected funds will go directly to addressing the most critical needs of these animals on the ground:

Veterinary Care and Disease Prevention: Providing necessary medical interventions to treat severe respiratory illnesses and injuries.

Anti-Poaching Efforts: Supporting the crucial work of eco-guards and rangers who locate and remove dangerous wire snares from the forests.

Habitat Preservation: Helping to maintain the protected tropical forests that both gorillas and local communities rely on for survival.

How will the beneficiary receive the funds?

To ensure absolute transparency and guarantee that 100% of the funds reach the gorillas, I will not be handling any of the money personally.

The funds generated here are processed and transferred directly by GoFundMe's platform to Gorilla Doctors' secure bank account. They provide the daily monitoring, community education, and veterinary intervention that is vital for the growth and survival of the habituated gorilla population.
