Help ‘Bubbles Shelly Turtle’ Renovate her Tank

Hi, my name is Marcie and I am helping Marlo’s classroom at Sherwood Montessori Charter School raise funds for their classroom pet. Bubbles is a 10 year old red eared slider turtle. Red eared sliders require a unique environment with water, heat and land. Bubbles current tank needs a complete overhaul/ remodel and we need your help.

 

My family found Bubbles crossing the street in 2018. After placing ads looking for her owner with no response and discovering she was an invasive species; she was most likely dumped. My son was in Marlo’s class at that time and brought her to school for sharing. The kids loved her and Marlo decided to take her in as a classroom pet.

 

Bubbles spent the summer with us in a bucket while we waited for the fall semester to start. Marlo’s class had bake sales and raised enough money to purchase a 65 gallon tank, stand, pump and docking station. The kids named her Bubbles Shelly Turtle because ‘everyone has a first, middle and last name’. Bubbles loves being in Marlo’s class. Story time is her favorite along with greeting each child as they enter the classroom to start their day. Her feeding schedule is on the kids job board and everyone gets the opportunity to care for her.

 

Three years ago we did the best we could with what we knew and now we know better. Bubbles current tank set up puts too much pressure on the pump; which has failed for the third time recently. Replacing the pumps is only putting a band aide on the problem. Her tank needs a complete overhaul; built up with gravel using spray foam to separate the water from a dry landing area. It needs a new smaller filter system and new pump that is not gravity fed.

 

Chris Sternet the owner of Pond Pros Plus has made room in his schedule to rebuild Bubbles tank over winter break. Chris is generously donating his time and labor, saving us over 50% of the usual cost for a job of this type because he loves children. Every dollar raised will go directly to the supplies and parts Chris needs to rebuild the tank. Chris is an expert at what he does and renovating the current tank will provide Bubbles with a low maintenance forever terrarium/ water habitat ensuring she has a healthy, happy, forever home in Marlo’s classroom.
