Help Bryony get Abby new knees

Donation protected
Donations to help Abby's parents with the cost of her double TPLO surgery are greatly appreciated. These are some amazing pet parents, doing all they can for the health and happiness of their sweet, wiggly girl.

From Bryony:

Abby, our American Staffordshire Terrier found her way to us in September 2020, a little past her 1st birthday. She was fostered through Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue, who not only saved her from a previous life, but nursed her to health after having Parvo. We drove four hours to meet this sweet girl and brought her home that day.

After saying goodbye to Nigel, our late American Bulldog, there was a massive void in our hearts and home. Ours cats, Mulder and Freya felt it too. They grew up with dogs around and have come accustomed to the energy their canine siblings bring. In the last 6-months, Abby has not only formed a bond with the kitties, she has brought immense joy to our home, family and friends. She has so much character, is full of energy, is loving and playful, and loves to be around people. Aside from destroying her toys and proudly parading with the remnants of what used to be a plush dinosaur, or the rubbery fragments of her Kong, her favorite thing to do is run.

The expression, “stupid happy” only begins to describe the undiluted joy she feels when romping around. She is fast, she is fierce and if she can get you to chase her, she will run and chase back until she has no zoomies left. Unfortunately, like so many of the Terrier breeds, she ended up with small tears in both of her ACLs/CCLs, likely from running hard and fast. While we’ve tried nursing her back to health since late January, she hasn’t gotten better and we are now facing tibial plateau leveling osteotomy or TPLO surgery on both legs. With the injury affecting both sides, she is having difficulties getting up at times, shifts her weight from leg to leg and isn’t able to live her best, active life. And as a way to reduce further issues later on, it is recommended that surgery happen sooner. Here is a link to the procedure should you be curious, https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/cranial-cruciate-ligament-repair-tibial-plateau-leveling-osteotomy-tplo.

Abby will go in for surgery on March 27th and we are opting to have both done simultaneously. While this will be a rough recovery, having one recovery is in her best interest, as she is already shifting from leg to leg depending on comfort. Plus, this will get her back to being a puppy sooner.

The good news is that she is healthy aside from her ACL/CCL tears. And being that she is young, in good health and very muscular, she is a great candidate not only for the surgery, but for a great recovery as well. With the pandemic, I have been working from home, and happen to be in a situation where I will be able to monitor and aid in her recovery without having to miss too much work.

This is where I humbly accept the help so many graciously offered to give and ask for help from those who might be able to. These are tough times, on many of us, and while it’s difficult to ask, here I am.

Transparency of costs: I’m already a $1000 into this. Between Abby’s urgent care visit and x-rays $600+, medications $100+, post-checkup $120+, specialist examination/consultation $160. Her surgery is estimated to be between $7,600 and $8,000 (we will find out on Saturday), and then another $1000 at a guess for post-op follow-up appointments. I have no idea what medications will cost at this time. In total, we are looking at $10K. Oof. While I do have a CareCredit Card, this exceeds the limit of that card. Kurt and I have our collective $2800 stimulus slated for this bill, and like so many others, Tax Refunds for 2020 aren’t in my favor.
