Help Bryan stay in his accessible home

My dear friend and co-worker Bryan who lives with Cerebral Palsy is facing eviction from his accessible apartment.

Anyone that has the pleasure of knowing Bryan knows that he is the most sincere person you can meet, often putting his needs before others and always making sure his friends and loved ones know that he appreciates them, a very rare trait these days.  He is a devoted advocate for people with disabilities and enjoys a very active lifestyle although he is in a mobile chair. Bryan coaches a local wheelchair basketball team in his spare time and also is an important peer to others with mobility issues.

This unfortunate situation all started with the sudden death of his roommate and best friend Mike whom was also disabled.  This effected Bryan’s living situation from every direction all at once.  Bryan had fallen behind on his rent when he was hospitalized on and off for a month in June of 2019 and then struggled to find a new roommate afterwards.  After posting ads he thought his situation was in the clear when he had someone who took the offer but this person only lasted a few weeks then completely ghosted him leaving him in the same position but further down in debt.

He proactively sought out assistance for his unpaid rent applying for a rental assistance program but his application has been held up in a 3 month process for unclear reasons.  Last he understood he was approved for the amount of what he owed in back rent but his property management has finally had enough and is evicting him before Christmas.  Bryan has also been told by a local Housing Authority that they do not consider him disabled because he works too much and as I am writing this he arranged for his care worker to pick him up so he can wheel himself to their location and prove that he is indeed so.

Bryan unfortunately needs an apartment that is fully accessible (walking shower, grab bars in the bathroom, accessible sinks, ect,) which is very hard to find especially on such short notice.  This is a near impossible situation for him to get out of unless he receives outside help. His best scenario is to pay what he owes in rent and continue looking for an honest and responsible roommate.

No one should be facing this at this time of year!

All funds collected will go straight to the debt owed or if the eviction takes place it will be used for first, last, and security for another accessible apartment.   No amount is too small.
