Hello, my name is Bryan Hwang! In 2025, I moved to Washington from California with a job offer from Seneca Family of Agencies, a non profit focused on providing unconditional care to youth with mental health challenges. This was my fresh start in a new state doing meaningful work.
Three weeks after moving, everything changed.
I was hospitalized for a week, barely able to walk and was ultimately diagnosed in August 2025 with an autoimmune disorder called anti-MOGAD (I describe it as multiple sclerosis's ugly younger sibling). It's an autoimmune disorder that affects my nervous system and requires ongoing treatment to manage and prevent relapses.
If you know me, you know I have a hard time asking for help. I have been trying to handle this quietly and independently. While my work as a Peer Partner is very rewarding, it unfortunately doesn't cover the growing medical expenses. Between MRIs, physical therapy, neurology consults, and ongoing care, the costs have added up quickly. I managed for a while on my own until I received the bill for my monthly treatment. That's when I realized that this was bigger than I could realistically handle alone.
I've set a goal for $10,000. I know that's a significant amount, but it reflects the medical debt I'm facing and will help cover upcoming treatment expenses necessary to prevent future relapses.
If you are able to donate any amount, I would appreciate it so much. If you aren't able to help financially but would still like to support, please donate plasma! My monthly treatment is derived from donated plasma from healthy individuals and donations quite literally make my treatment possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and thank you for your support!
