We were really hesitant to making a GoFundMe at first but after so many of you are reaching out asking, we decided it was time.
On the night of Friday, March 20th Casey and I were woken up in the middle of the night by floods coming into our neighborhood. We were lucky enough to leave early before waiting for the sirens. We're not the only people affected by this tragedy to our community; many have lost much more than us.
Our home is raised 3ft off the ground and about 2 1/2ft of water was flowing through. We were left with 3 inches of mud after the water disappeared. So much of our personal belongings are destroyed - beds, couches, dishes, food, toiletries, books and so much more. Unfortunately, its uninhabitable for the time being as the electric has been damaged as well as mold is starting to take over. It's hard to fathom how much of our collective 18 years on this island we've lost.
We are lucky to have a strong support system letting us crash for the past couple of days. Insurance doesn't cover any of the things we lost. and we are displaced. We don't want a lot, just enough to get us through this difficult time and help us get back on our feet.
The support we've received so far has been overwhelming. We feel so loved and looked after by everyone. Our North Shore community has come together to help us physically and our families and friends on the mainland have sent so much love from afar. Thank you for any help you can give - it truly means the world to us right now.
