A week ago, my miniature dachshund, Bruno, was completely himself—playful, loving, and full of personality. But over the past week, I started noticing small changes. He became more whiny, less active, and just wasn’t his usual happy self. I knew something wasn’t right. We went into the vet expecting a normal visit, but it quickly turned into something much more serious. After X-rays, I was told that Bruno has IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), a condition dachshunds are prone to that can lead to severe pain and even paralysis. Hearing that my dog—my best friend—needs surgery was devastating. Right now, Bruno is in pain and not acting like himself, and it’s heartbreaking to watch.
The treatment he needs in the coming weeks is his best chance at living a normal, pain-free life again. Without it, his condition could worsen. As a first-year teacher, I’m doing everything I can to make this work, but the cost of surgery and care is more than I can afford on my own. I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this, but Bruno means everything to me. He’s not just a pet—he’s family. He’s been there for me through everything, and now he needs me.
If you’re able to donate, even a small amount, it would mean the world to us and go directly toward his treatment and recovery. And if you can’t, sharing this helps more than you know. Thank you for taking the time to read Bruno’s story and for helping give him a chance to feel like himself again.
