My name is Jimena, and I am Bruno Soer’s mom. We are a Mexican-Canadian family who moved to Mexico during the pandemic. Many people in Vancouver know me from my years working in programs that supported families and young children.

I am Bruno’s sole provider, and the journey has not been easy. Balancing work, motherhood, and health while rebuilding our lives in my hometown after many years away has been deeply challenging. At the same time, I have been building my own wellness practice and teaching classes focused on natural health.

Six times a week, we travel more than 35 kilometers each way so Bruno can train with the coach who, in my opinion, is the best prepared in our region, adding the fact that there aren't many competitive teams nor pools to train at. We make this commitment because Bruno has fallen deeply in love with swimming, and his dedication has been extraordinary.

Bruno began competitive swimming only 18 months ago, and since then he has truly shined. In the last three swim meets in the 8-year-old category, he won gold medals in almost every race he entered. Swimming has given him confidence, discipline, joy, and purpose. Now, at 9 years old, he continues to grow stronger, more dedicated, and even more passionate about the sport.

We have started receiving invitations to out-of-town swim meets, and Bruno was recently selected to represent our province, Yucatán, at the last regional championship. This has been an exciting opportunity for him to continue growing and competing at a higher level. As a single mother, I believe the greatest gift I can give my son is the opportunity to keep developing his talent, discipline, and commitment year after year.

As his mother and sole provider, one of my deepest wishes is also to secure medical insurance for Bruno, so he can pursue the sport he loves with safety and protection for his future.
