Update- hello Friends and Family,

although we did not collect enough to make our initial goal, we elected to do the surgery because of how dear this dog is to our family. We are happy to report the surgery was successful. The 3 ruptured discs were repaired, some bruising on his spinal column, but it will heal in time. Our Bruce spent 3 nights in the hospital, but is now resting comfortably at home!

Bruce is not out of the woods yet, he starts physical therapy Monday and has a follow up visit on Wednesday.

Hello family and friends, animal lovers, and pet parents, my family and I very much need your help. On the morning of September 1, my sister, Christine, found her dog, Bruce, unable to walk and experiencing symptoms of paraplegia—Bruce could not move his hind legs and was whining in pain when you tried to move him. As you can imagine, this was a frightening moment to find a member of your family in pain and suffering. We are unaware of why or how this happened, but after seeing the doctor, it was explained to us that Bruce has three ruptured discs in his lower spine, pinching his spinal column nerves. The doctor gave my sister two options: 1) surgery to repair the ruptured discs, or 2) euthanasia. My sister chose the surgery because he is not just a dog, Bruce was born into our family, a big brother to his human little sister, a protector, and a loving silly goofball who shows lots of love by drooling on you.

Bruce was born into our family on April 5, 2019. Bruce is a terrier mix, a shiny chocolate brown coat with a white strip under his neck. Although Bruce is six years old, he is a puppy at heart and has a youthful spirit. Bruce brings a tremendous amount of love to our family and we could not euthanize him, especially being told by the doctor that Bruce had a very high chance of making a full recovery.

The spinal surgery will cost approximately $16K-$20K and we do not have pet insurance, nor do we have this amount of money readily available.

Please, we are asking for your help to save our family member. Any amount you can spare will make a world of difference to our family and will go directly toward Bruce’s medical and rehab bills. The surgery itself if more than $15K and his after care is going to be another $5k.
