WHAT A TREMENDOUS RESPONSE. I HAVE CAPPED DONATIONS AT $750 AND TENDAI WILL USE THE EXTRA FOR CONFERENCE PER DIEMS
My name is Bruce Gilley, I am a professor of politics and global affairs at Portland State University in Oregon. My good friend in Zimbabwe, Tendai Ruben Mbofana, has contacted me with an urgent micro-grant request: $300 to cover his unreimbursed transfer and vaccination costs to give a paper at the upcoming Africa Liberty Forum in Nairobi. Tendai is a critical voice of responsibility and good governance in Africa, as well as a fine person. Please consider a donation to get him to this important conference run by the George Ayittey Society. I will be forwarding the funds to him as they come in.
Tendai's website is: https://mbofanatendairuben.news.blog/
Thanks all,

Dear Bruce
I hope this message finds you well.
I am pleased to share some exciting news — I have been invited to attend the Africa Liberty Forum 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, which will take place from July 29 to August 2, 2025. This is a prestigious continental gathering of thought leaders, scholars, and advocates for liberty and good governance, and I am honored that my research paper was accepted for presentation at the forum.
The event is being fully sponsored by the George Ayittey Society, who extended the invitation and are covering my flights, accommodation, and all official program-related costs.
However, despite this generous support, I am facing some financial constraints related to local and logistical expenses on my end — including:
● The mandatory yellow fever vaccination
● Travel from my hometown (Kwekwe) to Harare for the outbound flight, and the return trip afterwards
● Taxi fare from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi upon arrival
After careful budgeting, I estimate that I require approximately US$300 to cover these essential costs.
I would be sincerely grateful for any financial assistance you might be able to offer to help me meet this shortfall. Your support would not only enable me to participate in this important continental forum, but also ensure that Zimbabwean voices — especially from communities like ours — are represented in these critical policy discussions on liberty, justice, and development.
Please let me know if you’re able to assist in any way. I would truly appreciate it — and I commit to sharing with you updates and outcomes from the Forum.
Thank you very much for your consideration and kind support.
Warm regards,
Tendai Ruben Mbofana
