Bruce Dorrell needs our help! Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday 18/10/21 Bruce was lucky to survive a near tragic accident and we're all grateful he's still with us xx

This amazing, positive and selfless man has overcome adversity time after time while living and caring for his wife Joy who originally suffered a stroke in July of 2015 and then diagnosed with cancer followed by other illnesses not long after. He never complained whilst caring for the love of his life and always saw the light ahead no matter how hard circumstances became, though deep down I knew he was just surviving and pushing forward hoping for the best. Sadly Joy passed away in their Evan’s Head home while he held her lovingly tight
in his arms.
Being Bruce he eventually picked himself up, moved to Cairns and bought the boat (oops sorry Bruce I meant to say yacht) of his dreams! Bruce was always avid and extremely experienced skipper in his day. He then decided it was time to bring Joyous is yacht home to Evan’s Head so after many months of carefully planning the trip back and thinking of all the possible scenarios that could be associated with the trip he set sail on the 15th of this month.
Yesterday afternoon only 3 days after he set sail Bruce called me to tell me he had an accident on his yacht just north of the Whitsundays!
Earlier that morning he took sail just off Bowen in QLD heading south towards a memorable place that Bruce and his late wife Joy had spent some of their happiest days together. Tragically that dream was short lived as he suffered what the doctors are initially assuming was a heart condition that caused him to black out as he was walking down to the galley. Bruce fell head first and was pinned under the table after hitting it very hard. Some hours later he came to after being woken by loud crashing and banging as the yacht was hitting the rocks after his vessel ran aground on the north side of Hook Island. Bruce was able to radio for help and not long after he was airlifted to Mackay Hospital. He’s safe now though this has truly been one too many blows a man should have to endure in a life time. During the testing to see the extent of his injuries they have identified a small shadow on his lungs. Tests are yet to be carried out to identify this shadow. Now to top it off his brother Keith has had to arrange the salvage of the yacht however this has come at an alarming cost of $16,500.00 and then an additional $5,000.00 to have it mounted on a stand when the salvage team get it to port so it can be repaired. This Joyous yacht is all Bruce has left as this was also his only home. We as his immediate friends and family can all only pitch in so much financially, so after much deliberation a go fund me page has been set up to help with some of the costs and anyone that can help would be greatly appreciated.
