Hi, my name is Alexandra, Bruce is my partner, my heart breaks for him and his mum and I can't help him by myself so I'm reaching out for help and this is what happened.

On Friday, September 12th, 2025, around 2:30pm, I called my partner Bruce. I had finished work early and wanted to surprise him.

He answered quickly—but his voice was rushed.

“There’s a small fire at the back of the house,” he said.

We were on FaceTime. In that moment, I saw what he didn’t want me to see—the fire brigade arriving behind him. My heart sank. I knew it wasn’t small.

I raced over.

Driving up the street, the sight crushed me—four fire brigades, six police officers standing in front of the house

I got out of the car and asked the officers where Bruce was. They pointed.

There he was, sitting at the front. Silent. In shock. Watching the place he called home being destroyed before his eyes.

For the last seven years, Bruce has lived with and lovingly cared for his mum. From the moment I met him, I saw his devotion. His quiet strength. His heart.

But in one afternoon, it was all gone.

The fire, caused by an electrical fault, ripped through half the home. The rest was contaminated by asbestos. The house has been boarded up, fenced off, and will be demolished. Nothing can be saved.

Bruce and his mum lost everything.

And because it was housing, there is no insurance to help them rebuild.

As if that wasn’t enough, just a week later Bruce’s health gave way. He was in pain and rushed to hospital he had a procedure, with another surgery ahead in six weeks. The loss, the stress, the pain—it has left him in a very dark place.

I’m starting this GoFundMe to help Bruce find hope again. To help him and his mum replace the essentials they’ve lost. To show him that even when life falls apart, there is kindness, there is light, and there is a way forward.
