Hi, my name is Miranda Weller, and I’m writing this with a full heart and a heavy one. Bruce Weller Jr. is my amazing husband — a strong, humble, and loving man who has been courageously fighting for his life since being diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2016.

At that time, doctors told us that Bruce had about three years to live without a heart transplant. But the heart is an incredible thing. With expert medical care, an implanted defibrillator, and a lot of trial and error with medications, Bruce defied the odds — making it to 2025 before things began to rapidly decline.

This year, Bruce has almost died twice.

In July, he went into cardiogenic shock and was rushed to Virginia Mason for an extended stay. He received a new pacemaker, and that’s when the transplant conversation became real. By September, we began the extensive evaluation process for a heart transplant — a process that’s emotionally, physically, and financially overwhelming.

Then came another crisis.

Just four assessments away from finishing the transplant evaluation, Bruce suffered a sudden ventricular tachycardia episode. He had to be shocked and intubated, and thanks to the incredible team at Skagit Hospital, he was stabilized and transferred to University of Washington Medical Center.

That was just over a week ago, but it feels like a lifetime.

After countless tests, consults, and emotional rollercoasters, on October 2nd, we got the call we didn’t know if we’d ever hear:

Bruce has been officially approved for the heart transplant list.

It was an indescribable moment — a breath of hope in what has felt like a long, dark tunnel. But we still have a long road ahead.

Bruce cannot leave the hospital until one of two things happens:

Right now, the transplant team is doing everything they can to make a new heart the first and healthiest option for him.
