Help Bruce Get a New Heart and Kidneys

This is my younger brother, Bruce Shankin.  Bruce has struggled with congestive heart failure for over 20 years.  He has been through multiple open heart surgeries, pharmaceutical interventions, and has lived a life colored by this serious and life threatening condition. 

Bruce's wonderful wife, Maria, and his children Marin, 13 and Griffin, 15, need our support. Bruce's condition has now deteriorated to the point where he needs a heart and kidney transplant. He is currently in Mount Sinai Hospital in New York . 

Insurance will pay for some of the expenses, but much will not be covered. Bruce is self-employed and when he is unable to work, he does not have an income. At this point in time, there is no way to predict how long it will be before Bruce can return to work. Maria has worked two and sometimes three jobs for the past seven years in order to help support the family. Even so, this most recent turn of events presents the family with an overwhelming financial challenge.  We are struggling to help him with his medical bills and find ways to support his family while he is in the hospital, and during the many long months of recovery.  We are looking for donations to help us cover home care, insurance premium payments, physical therapy, copays, deductible expenses, household expenses, and anything that may come up that we have not anticipated. 


I am asking everyone to please share Bruce's story. I am asking friends and family to help in any way that they can. No gift is too small and every gift will be so appreciated by Bruce and his family.
