Dear friends,
Two summers ago, this community* lifted me up in a way I never could’ve dreamed. I think we all hoped I’d quickly be on the road to recovery, but I’m humbled to say that today I need your help even more. In the last 2yrs, my status has gone from recent ovarian cancer diagnosis + concurrent TBI (w/post concussion syndrome) to almost countless hospitalizations, ER visits, CTs/MRIs, spinal tap tests, meds w/ intense side effects, a spectrum of medical gaslighting ranging from EMT machismo to SA by an inpatient PT, and now… terrifying imaging results in my brain, lungs, spleen, and a newly-found pancreatic tumor, on top of a horrific seizure disorder that developed last August and has left me in constant pain & fear, particularly having struck at the nexus of the medical-industrial-complex’s planned denial of service + long-ingrained bias about the mind/body relationship.
TL;DR: Despite being on Medicaid & SNAP (for now!), my acct balance is back in the negative and I’m unable to pay rent/utilities/storage, cover those basic needs that public assistance won’t, and (most hopelessly) to buy food for my service animal/best friend, Browser.
I know from close observation and careful penny pinching, over the last 3yrs of being unable to work, that $30K is the amount it will take to get me through this emergency, for the next 9-12 months.
* I also want to thank the Gottlieb Foundation & NYFA-administered Robert Rauschenberg Foundation emergency medical grants for their support. Both vetted my medical records & finances, fyi, so you know I’m not doing this just for funsies. It was also an honor to be able to pay it forward in supporting multiple other crowdfunding/artist/nonprofit campaigns over the last two years, but I’ve now exhausted every bit of savings and support I’ve received.
Thank you so much for every kind word of support & every dollar shared thus far. I know many of you are unable to give more, or have given all you can to other very worthy causes. For those who can, I really appreciate anything you can do, from donating to sharing the campaign online. Thanks again and be well.
