Help Brownie Walk Again: Support Her Surgery

Donny here—some of you know me from Taaffe Loft, Brooklyn’s favorite underground DIY launchpad in outerspace. “Space is the Place,” but today I’m reaching out from a much more grounded place—with a heavy heart and a hopeful ask.

My dog Brownie—my best friend, my ride-or-die, and the quiet heartbeat of our home—is facing a serious medical emergency. She’s suffered not one, but two full ligament tears in both of her back legs, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

This is the same Brownie who used to dart after squirrels in the park, leap onto couches like she had moon boots, and run to the door the second I came home. Now, she needs to be carried everywhere. And yet, she’s still wagging her tail, still full of warmth, still curling up beside me with that same Brownie glow.

After consulting with specialists, we’ve learned her best chance at recovery is through double TPLO surgery, followed by an extensive period of rehabilitation and mobility support. The total cost—surgery, aftercare, therapy, and equipment—will fall between $7000 - $8000. I’ve set the goal at $8000 to cover what she needs to heal and be comfortable.

It’s an overwhelming figure. And while I’ve always found ways to hustle and stretch in tough moments, this one is too big for me alone. I’m already at the tipping point—trying to care for Brownie while staying afloat with rent and basics.

Brownie isn’t just my family. She’s Taaffe family. She’s part of the Brooklyn beat—greeted DJs, comforted dancers, and soaked up vibes on countless nights filled with music and community.
