Help Brooklyn Recover from Her Motorcycle Accident

My name is Karla Adams, proud mother of Brooklyn Leigh Moss, 20, who was in a horrible motorcycle accident on May 9, 2026. My daughter, Brook, was airlifted to Wake Forest Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, including but not limited to traumatic aortic disruption, multiple fractures of her pelvis, closed bilateral forearm fractures, closed dislocation of her left elbow, retroperitoneal bleed, intraperitoneal bleeding, and extraperitoneal bladder laceration.

Unfortunately, there was a setback in her progress beginning on May 21. Although CT scans and X-rays were unable to show where she has a leak in her intestines, they attempted exploratory surgery on Friday, May 22. However, due to scar tissue and other issues, the best course of action was to put additional drains in her abdomen to relieve the pressure and pain of the fluid. She now has three drains coming out of her abdomen and stomach and her NG tube. We have to pray and hope that by getting the fluid out of her and allowing her intestines to heal, the hole will close itself.

I don't drive, and therefore, it has put a significant amount of stress and responsibility on my family to get me to and from the hospital. So, we have been using Uber because the cost of gas and the time it takes is very draining for all of us. Between myself and her sister Bryanna, we are making sure that Brooklyn is never left there by herself. She is in great hands with the wonderful doctors at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. They have been excellent in keeping me informed of Brook's condition and treatment, which at this point, they are keeping a very close eye on many things that will determine what lies ahead. I do know she has several more surgeries that she will have to endure. Please keep Brooklyn in your prayers.

For those that do not know, Brooklyn is a CNA at the VA hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina. She had plans, along with her sister Bryanna, to start nursing school in the fall. I know she will not be able to start the classes in the fall, but I know the strength she has in her, and I have to believe that this horrible tragedy will, in some way, give her the ability to understand what her patients are going through when she becomes a nurse or a doctor. Who knows, the sky is the limit. Brook is the one who will take something like this and turn it into something that will help others.
