Medical and Travel Expenses for Brooke

As many of you know Brooke was admitted to Atrium Health Cleveland on 10/28 with severe neurological symptoms. When she was admitted on 10/28 they determined that she has Stiff person syndrome with PERM (a more severe and rare form of SPS). She was moved to Atrium Health in Charlotte on 11/16. The head of Neurology at CMC told Brooke that she needs to be at John's Hopkins in Baltimore for the best outcome but insurance has declined to pay for transport there by medical flight. They will only pay for her to go with a nurse on a commercial flight but she can not sit in a chair to tolerate flight (she will need stretcher via medical flight). She is unable to sit in a chair for more then 10 minutes without having an episode where she goes completely stiff and can not talk or move until her body unlocks from the episode. The episodes can be fairly quick or they can last for much longer. The episodes are very painful and exhausting. The medical flight cost $14,000. John's Hopkins is the best place on the East Coast for SPS patients. She has been accepted as a patient but it is up to the family and friends to get her there. If you know Brook you know that she can light up a room with her humor, witty comments, beautiful smile and positive attitude. Brooke has never ask for anything. Throughout all this Brooke has still been making sure that her Fiancé Sarah, son Ryker and Mother Deborah (Deedee) are taking care of themselves. Brooke has always been the caretaker, giver and the planner for everyone else now it is our turn to take care of her.

Brooke made it to John's Hopkins on 11/30 the doctors are already running many test and working on a treatment plan for Brooke. Sarah and Deborah (Deedee) want to be with Brooke as much as possible so I have increased our goal to help with travel expenses for them and the many medical bills that Brooke will have. Thank you from the Brooke, Sarah, Deborah (Deedee), the rest of the family and I. Y'all have been amazing. Let's see if we can help take some more burden off this family so they can focus on Brooke.
