Brooke’s Recovery

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Kellie and I'm wanting to raise money for one of my best friends, Brooke Harshaw.
For months now, Brooke has been living a nightmare no one deserves. What began as intense pain and desperate trips to multiple hospitals turned into a life-altering medical crisis. After being given an antibiotic that triggered intense destruction to her body. She spent two weeks hospitalized while doctors described her situation as a “perfect storm of destruction.” Since then, Brooke has lost much of her strength, mobility, and independence. She now uses a walker. Everyday tasks — walking, writing, even taking care of herself — are things she’s having to relearn. She will eventually have to relearn how to drive. Bit by bit, she is regaining some strength, but we don’t yet know what her future at work looks like, and she may need in-home care. She may even have to move, as she can no longer climb stairs. But her medical battle didn’t end there.

Since the end of August, Brooke has endured:
  • Three hospital stay and multiple ER visits
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Severe urinary complications
  • Constant severe UTIs and kidney infections
  • Rapid weight loss and severe gastroparesis
  • She will be getting a GJ feeding tube surgery on November 20th, just to get the nutrients her body can’t process on its own.

She’s in physical therapy three times a week, juggling countless medical appointments, and trying to get into Duke or VCU for more specialized evaluation and treatment. Brooke has been too sick to work for months. She has lost her independence and stability, and every day brings a new challenge she never asked for. Yet through all of this, she has shown incredible strength, courage, and grace. She is one of those rare souls who gives endlessly, lights up every room, and deeply cares for everyone around her. Right now, Brooke needs us. She needs a community behind her. She needs to know she isn’t fighting this alone.

Every donation — no matter the amount — will go directly toward:
  • mounting hospital bills
  • ongoing treatments
  • medications
  • basic living expenses (short term disability is only covering 60% of her pay now)

If you can help, please do. And if you can’t donate, sharing her story truly means more than you know.

Brooke should be focused on healing — not on losing everything she’s worked so hard for. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reading, donating, and sharing. Your support means the world.
