Help Brooke Lee Rebuild After Devastating Flood
Donation protected
As many of you know, nearly all of Kentucky has been impacted by devastating floods over the last week or so. Right now, the Ohio River and Green River are in flood stage. Over the weekend, the Kentucky River reached record flood levels in many places, including where my sister, Brooke Lee, lives in Jessamine County.
The river rose another six feet or so after she was evacuated (via boat, with help from the amazing Jessamine County Emergency Management team). Inside, the water line was about 4.5 feet up the wall. Much of what was inside was either ruined by mud, debris and water, or knocked over and moved, and therefore damaged enough as to be unsalvageable. Her car's engine was covered with water and mud.
We're still assessing the extent of the damage, but what we know right now is that she's going to need some help to get established somewhere -- she'll need basic furniture including a bed and a desk, clothes that aren't moldy or mildewed, a car, and a deposit/first month of rent. Additionally, her car was a major source of income as she drives for DoorDash, and we're pretty sure she won't be able to do that for a while. And a thousand of little things we probably haven't thought of yet. Pet food. People food. Toilet paper. Toiletries. She was able to take a few things with her when she left, but not much.
Any amount at all will help her get back on her feet and settled in -- hopefully farther away from the river and in a place that will accommodate her furbabies.
Can you help?
