Between the years 2001 - 2004, native New Zealander, Brooke Rangi, played a dominant role for the LHU women’s soccer program, scoring 36 goals and 23 assists and earning selections on the NCAA Division II All-American Second team (2002); the All-Northeast Region Team (2002 and 2003); and the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) First Team (2002, 2003, and 2004). Following her soccer career at LHU, Brooke represented her native country while competing in Turkey with the New Zealand women’s national football team (2004).
In addition to her noteworthy soccer accolades, Brooke also excelled as a member of the LHU Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams, where she still holds the record for 55-meter hurdles and the pentathlon and took home the title of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track Champion for the 55-meter hurdles and high jump in 2002.
Those who were fortunate to have seen Brooke perform either on the soccer field or on the track will agree that she was a force to be reckoned with and undoubtedly left a memorable stamp upon the LHU athletic programs.
For the past year or so, Brooke has continued to demonstrate that she is a fierce contender – but this time the fight has been against an aggressive and cancerous brain tumor. Fortunately, Brooke’s perseverance and positive attitude have been prevailing, and recent scans have shown that the tumor has shrunk in size and is nearly (hopefully) gone. Even so, the medical expenses due to chemotherapy and radiation and the challenges that this endeavor have placed upon her family have certainly been extensive.
As a gesture of support, the LHU Women’s Soccer family would like to rally together to raise funds for Brooke and her family, who are now living in Australia. Please consider supporting a fellow LHU Bald Eagle – though we might be at a
distance away, we can still send her our love and positivity from afar!
Update from Brooke as of 6/5/23:
My Cancer Setback.
I hate to post but it's easier to just blanket this and leave no room for anything other than what it is.
My brain cancers have grown back. I was in hospital last week trying to get answers for treatment plans.
I was called to be in Brisbane for neurosurgery tomorrow. So we have packed the kids, travelled the 12 hours. Filled my soul with good friends, memories, dreams hopes and the ability to fight.
Surgery Tuesday 8am. Intensive care unit for 7-10days then we see what the future bring.
Cancer be gone and may they bless the surgeons hands with a gift for our whanau.
Please contact Terry Stilgoe you need. I will be ok because I have to be!
I can feel the love so keep sending it please.
Thank you!
