Hey Family,

On Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, New York City watched firsthand as a NYCHA building lost an entire side due to a boiler explosion in the basement. What was a major news headline for most was a sad reality for me. My apartment was one of the few impacted by this terrible accident. The residents on the F & G Lines have been displaced until the damage is repaired. My family and I (myself, my two daughters, my grandbaby, and our dogs) had to scramble last minute, and in the chaos of the transition, one of my dogs suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be taken to the ASPCA for emergency medical care.

This event, like most emergencies, was unexpected and is coming after a wave of misfortune my family has survived in the last 7 months. I lost my son in March and my sister shortly after. My injured dog of 15 years will likely have to be put down as well. (RIP CREAM) The weight of so much loss had already put a significant strain on my family. The loss of our home has impacted us even more. We are still responsible for our medical care, the extensive commute from our temporary shelter in a different borough, food (no kitchen or refrigerator access), and toiletry basics since we were not able to take any of those things with us, and more.

I am leaning on the community to help my family reset and find our footing again. This kind of setback, on top of everything we’ve survived this year, has been sobering, and we are looking to raise funds to help us rebuild our foundation and keep us afloat until we can find a more permanent home.
