Our son Brody lives with medication-resistant epilepsy, a condition that makes everyday life unpredictable and sometimes dangerous. Despite multiple surgeries, medications, and a Vagus Nerve Stimulator, his seizures continue, taking away his independence and safety. A specially trained service dog could change Brody’s life, alerting us to seizures, providing support during episodes, and helping him regain confidence and freedom. The puppy has already been provided, and this campaign is to fund the specialized seizure alert and response training he needs to become Brody’s fully trained service companion.

In May 2023, Brody was celebrating the end of his junior year of high school when he suffered a seizure by the river. He was rushed to the ICU, where doctors discovered a benign brain tumor and related conditions. Over the next months, Brody continued to have seizures despite multiple brain surgeries, medications, and the implantation of a Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS). His condition was eventually diagnosed as medication-resistant epilepsy, affecting both sides of his brain. Even with the best medical care, his seizures remain frequent, unpredictable, and sometimes severe. Living with epilepsy is challenging, not just for Brody, but for our entire family. Everyday activities can be dangerous, and independence is often taken away by the constant risk of seizures. After careful consideration, we know a service dog would provide Brody with the safety, support, and confidence he needs to regain a sense of normalcy.
