Anyone who's met Brodie knows he's the sweetest pup on the planet. He's been a constant companion to Val and her partner Sara, who both adore him! Please keep Brodie in your thoughts and help Val and Sara with the cost of his recovery. They've needed to pay over $40,000 upfront between early misdiagnoses, two major necessary surgeries, and supportive care in the hospital. Brodie is worth every penny, but any community support is welcome. Please consider contributing here or directly via Venmo (@Val-Bak and @srpizzo). Every bit helps. Keep scrolling to learn more about Brodie's journey and for cute pictures. Thank you!!
Recently, Brodie had some bad luck and broke a toe while adventuring on a hike. Brodie's body had a bad reaction to one of the pain meds he was prescribed. His symptoms worsened and he was in and out of the vet over the course of a week. After three separate overnight stays in the hospital, his care team discovered that an ulcer had formed. This ulcer was large enough to cause a tear in his GI track leading to a total-body infection. He was rushed into emergency surgery, where the doctors were able to repair the tear. Brodie showed mild improvement at times but still wasn't doing very well. He was unable to eat or drink and had to be re-admitted to the hospital. About a week later, an endoscopy revealed that there was a blockage between his stomach and intestines, likely due to severe inflammation. His only chance for survival required a second surgery. Despite all he had gone through, Brodie was still wagging his tail and in good spirits. It was clear he was still fighting for his life, so Val and Sara decided to move forward with the second surgery. Brodie made it through surgery (again) and is currently in the hospital recovering!!! He has regained his appetite and will likely come home very soon.
Thanks to everyone who has kept the three of them in your thoughts, donated funds, and shown support. Val and Sara deeply appreciate it and are forever grateful to be surrounded by such a supportive and loving community.
