Help Brodie Recover from Emergency Surgery

Donation protected
I was encouraged to make a go fund me to help with the vet bills for our rescue dog Brodie. While he is 7 years old and we have only had him for 1.5 years he has truly become one of our best friends. We took him out of a horrible situation where he slept in a garage in a crate all day and night. You can see in 1 of the pictures his hair on his back is a different color. When we got him he had no hair there because it was being burned off by him getting so close to his metal crate and the space heater they had to keep him sort of warm in the garage in the middle of winter.

We told him we would NEVER put him in a crate again and we never have until he had to stay at the emergency vet. He has slept in bed with us every night and we miss him so much!

Our nightmare started when we walked in the door from vacation to our dog vomiting blood and barely able to walk or stand. (Tuesday) We rushed him to Pinnacle veterinary hospital in Glen Mills, PA- I called ahead of time so they would be ready for him. Budd carried him in and he collapsed when we put him down and he was rushed to the back. They started him on an IV for fluids and started their check. They came in to tell us that if we waited even just a few more hours he may not be with us. They performed an ultrasound on his stomach to see what was going on where they found an Ulcer that was about to perforate. His red blood cell count was dropping and there would be potential need for a blood transfusion- they were just trying to stabilize him. We couldn't do surgery right away since he was so unstable.

On Wednesday morning I received a call from the doctor and they said his blood count has dropped even more (19%) and that we would have to do surgery to try and save him. But they had to do a scope (think endoscopy) to make sure they can even perform the surgery. They determined that he could and he did receive a blood transfusion to make sure he was as strong as possible before surgery. We received the call that surgery would be starting around 4pm. We waited and waited and prayed- we got the call around 7:30pm that he was out of surgery and they removed the ulcer...good news..well kind of.
The surgeon then told us that he may have stomach cancer and that the ulcer may have actually been a tumor (they sent it out for a biopsy). He said this was one of the worst stomachs he has seen and that the lining was very poor condition and even with it being removed we just don't know if/how long he will be with us if it is cancer. They also sent out a sample to a local lab that is not 100% but it will help us develop a care plan short term til the official biopsy comes back (about a week).

Thursday morning I got another update- He has a pneumonia (but not in respiratory distress as of now) and does have a low grade fever. They put him on 2 additional antibiotics. He is stable for now with the incision holding (as of a morning ultrasound). It is likely he will have to be there at least another 2-3 days at minimum to be monitored closely for the internal incision since the lining was not good to hold and also he needs to eat and his red blood cell count needs to return to normal (hoping and praying).

We likely have a long way to go to get our baby better but we continue to pray everyday he gets to come home. He doesn't deserve this. We took him out of a bad situation and gave him such a great life with everything we can give him and now this..we are hoping its not Cancer.

Currently our bill is $12,567.64 (as of 8:14am on June 19th) with still a few more days to go that he will need to be monitored and overnight care.
