Help Brock and Rachael with Flood Recovery
Donation protected
In the afternoon of November 14th, the creek in Old Clayburn Village (Abbotsford, BC) located on my sister and her family’s property began to rise. By the evening the once creek had turned into a fast-flowing river. It surrounded their family home and washed out a large portion of their property. Before evacuating the home, they went in to gather some final items to discover that the water had filled three rooms on the lower floor and was filling up the front entry and adjacent living room. With their children evacuated they stayed in the home to continue extracting the water and to keep it as dry as possible. The entire night was spent attempting to save the home. The aftermath that they awoke to the next morning was outstanding. Large logs, branches, mud, and debris surrounded the home. They would spend the days following trying to dry, somewhat organize what had survived and clean up the outside as best as possible. With the help of friends and family they began to slowly piece things back together. The day after the flooding they contacted their Insurance Broker to confirm they did not have overland flood coverage. On the following Sunday Balfour Restoration attended the property for an assessment where they learned the water damage was far more extensive than they had ever imagined! Areas that they thought had possibly survived had absorbed a lot of water.
The military has been of great assistance as they have now built a large sandbag wall enclosing their home. As of today, they had another scare as the rain began to pour once again. A group of volunteers reinforced the sandbags the military had setup to prevent further damage.
Red Cross has been contacted and it was confirmed as they are not in the Sumas Prairies, they are not able to get financial assistance.
Any contribution to help my sister rebuild her families home would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
