We are Brittney and Peyton, passionate English teachers and IB educators who were recently accepted to present at the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention — one of the most prestigious conferences in our field. This is not just any conference; it’s a career-defining opportunity to share our work with colleagues across the country, learn from leading voices in education, and bring back innovative practices to our students and community.

Unfortunately, our district denied funding for us to attend. As teachers, we all know professional development budgets are tight — but this decision has left us heartbroken. We’ve poured hours into our proposal and were thrilled to be selected to present. The chance to represent our school, our students, and our district on a national stage is something we don’t want to give up on.
