Help Brittany's Family Through Baby Patrick's Fight
On April 21st, 2025 Brittany and her family were celebrating their daughter's 2nd birthday. She was 23 weeks pregnant and expecting a baby boy in july. During the birthday party she began cramping and left for the ER in Albert Lea. On the way cramps turned into contractions.
They immediately called for a helicopter to life flight her to St.Marys. When the team got there for transport her water broke switching over to the helicopter stretcher. They continued on and started to head to st.marys. After being in the air for 10 minutes she unfortunately delivered her son in the helicopter. With another 10 minutes before reaching St.marys. Baby patrick was born weighing 1.4lbs and we do not know at this time his quality of life if he is to make it. Brittany had a placenta abruption they had found at 18 weeks. It was being followed weekly and was told it was small and nonconcerning at this time. But they would watch it. She was just seen in rochester for it the same day and things looked good. Baby is extremely bruised from having cpr in the helicopter. He didnt get proper nicu care for approximately 20 minutes. He was given oxygen and had a small pulse after cpr. But ultimately we do not know how long he may not have had oxygen. His skin on his right arm and hand has ripped open from the cpr.
Unfortunately babys of this size are extremely fragile and it could not be prevented. Patrick is in NICU in St.Marys and he is doing as well as expected for what he went through and his age. His left lung has clamped down and theyre working to try and get it to open back up. He has no sign of a brain bleed which is amazing for how traumatic his entrance into this world was for him.
Mom is doing well. Shes been sleeping in a recliner next to his bed and plans to stay by his side as much as possible. Later today she will be getting a room for her and her family at the Ronald McDonald house. Dad is trying to take off work for as long as possible to help with their other 4 children and manage things at home with school for their kids so Brittany can stay with baby. Hes trying to be there as well as much as possible to support Brittany and be with his son as well. If patrick keeps fighting like this it will be such a long road. They potentially would expect to bring baby home in 6 months if all goes well. Will continue to update as time goes on but this family really has a long road ahead of them.
