I Saved My Mom from Homelessness — Now I’m Fighting to Save Her Life
Four years ago, I made one of the hardest and most important decisions of my life — I drove to Sacramento to save my mom from homelessness. She had fallen on hard times after losing my grandmother, and then my older brother less than a year later. I couldn’t bear to see her living on the streets. When I arrived in Sacramento, she was living in our old neighbor’s car. I brought her back with me to Los Angeles, determined to give her safety, stability, and love.
It hasn’t been easy. The past few years have been full of challenges — emotionally, mentally, financially, and physically. I’ve had to make countless adjustments, adapt quickly, and put my own goals and lifestyle on hold to care for her needs. From doctor visits and medications to daily care and navigating the ups and downs of her health, it’s been a long journey of perseverance, faith, and unconditional love.
Now, my mother is in the hospital again — but this time, her health has declined rapidly. I’m facing another uphill battle. Her condition makes it difficult for her to live independently, and as I prepare for her potential release, I want to make sure she has a safe, comfortable home to return to — along with her two dogs, who mean the world to her.
Her dogs have become another responsibility of mine, and they too are aging and in need of extra care. They’ve been with her since they were puppies — her babies, her emotional support, her motivation to keep going. Keeping them safe and healthy is part of keeping her spirit alive. Losing them would break her heart and make everything even harder.
In addition by donating your contribution will go toward:
• A safe and comfortable living environment once she’s released
• Medical and recovery-related expenses
• Daily care and essentials to support her quality of life
I’ve done everything I can to support her on my own, but at this point, I need help. I’ve used all of my personal resources and savings to keep her as comfortable as possible. She receives little to no income, so I’ve been covering the difference — for essentials, groceries, and two rents in Los Angeles — and I’m now completely depleted.
I have endured so much in my life and have fought through every obstacle with strength and grace. I still have faith that this is just another step toward healing and stability — for both of us.
Please help me give my mom peace and comfort during this final stage of her life, as I do everything I can to strengthen her health and give her the care she needs.
If you can donate, share, or even send words of encouragement — it would mean the world. Every bit of support helps us take one step closer to hope, healing, and peace.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story and for caring enough to help.
With love and gratitude,
Brittany Lucio
